Description: Hozelock's Bio Mix is an award winning product which enables you to easily create your own nutrient-rich liquid plant food or natural insecticide. It consists of a tank with mixing handle, a filter which strains out liquid, and a tap which enables you to fill up a sprayer for use in your garden. Plants such as nettles are ideal for turning into fertiliser - with Bio Mix you simply add 1kg of them into the tank, followed by 10 litres of water, close the lid and then mix the solution every 2 days for 1-3 weeks. When your solution is ready for use, the tap at the bottom of the tank lets you pour out the filtered liquid into a sprayer or container. Then once it's been diluted with water it's ready for use. Biomix pays back after only 2 uses: the manufacture of 10 litres of plant fertiliser (1x Biomix production) is the equivalent of purchasing 10 x 1 litre packs of plant feed! Bee-friendly comfrey makes a highly nutritional natural plant feed - high in potassium and micro-nutrients for flowering and fruiting plants. Try the Bocking 14 variety which doesn't cast seeds and spread in your garden. Substitute nettles for high nitrogen feed to promote leafy growth - Gives a good boost to your plants that have suffered from frost or hail damage and stimulates young plants in spring. Got a problem with pests? - Lavender solution is a great deterrent for ants or try bracken fern to repel aphids. You can add a spoonful of black soap to improve adhesion of the solution. Review: I have made liquid feed or ‘tea’ for my garden before – but the slightly messy, slightly smelly way with a covered bucket and a stick. This is a much easier, more efficient, cleaner, less smelly way of achieving a good result. There are some great suggestions of plants which you can use to make your tea and we have an abundance of nettles growing on an area of unkempt/wild land near our house. We also have a smaller, but pretty patch of comfrey and plenty of dandelions, which is also great for teas. It doesn’t suggest grass cuttings, but these are good to use too and so can be used straight after mowing the lawn. Chopped up foliage goes in with water into the bin and then you stir it every couple of days (without having to open it as you have the stirring handle on the top to do this). It takes a couple of weeks, but when it stops bubbling, you know it is ready. When you open it, you can drain it really easily by lifting the inner portion and resting on the top. The solid material can be used too – we mix it into our compost heap. The liquid can then be decanted using the tap into bottles/canisters. This is such a great way to create really natural fertilizer – particularly when we have so many fruits and vegetables and we don’t want to be eating loads of nasty artificial chemicals where possible. Comfrey and lavender are also great for bees, so I will be encouraging our comfrey patch and planting some lavender so that we can make further varieties of tea for the garden and support the bees!

Review: This had to be moved as the smell was not pleasant but not so overwhelming as it would normally be. Made up the ivy(whitefly repelant) 4 weeks ago and still getting bubbles and still stinks more when you stir. Heavy to move but can be done. Too much money for what it does....or doesn’t. Not to sure I would recommend it. I will try another ‘recipe’ with something not so tough.
