Description: The Hulfafors Talmeter is a unique marking and measuring tool. Hard-wearing steel tape, that is scaled in millimetres, with ABS plastic casing. Combined measuring and marking edges that quickly and easily measure and mark both external and internal lengths. The tape and extender can be replaced and are available as spare parts. The tape also measure diameters using the scale on the reverse of the tape and it also has a compass function which is useful when marking round shapes. The scale is always locked in normal position and the extender is easy to open out and retract with the easy-to-hold sliding carriage. USING THE MARKING MEASURE. With a marking measure, you do not need to convert the measurements you have taken into units of measurement. Instead, all there is to it, is to fit in the combined marking and measuring edges between the measurement points on the object being measured. The scale is automatically fixed at this length and with the help of the same measuring and marking edges, you can then etch the length on to the work-piece. Review: From new, was always difficult/slow to retract. It recently failed completely, so I carefully extended to full length to find that the metal connecting tab had clearly been gradually failing, and had split all the way through. At 6 months old, and subject to very light woodwork use, this is not good enough. Window for return to Amazon closed, so I emailed manufacturer, very politely, asking if they would repair. Not even the courtesy of a reply. Just tried to message them - message not accepted. UPDATED : tried again to contact them and did eventually get a reply - the Customer care person had been away, and after a few emails , they agreed to look at it if I posted to them. Whether or not they determined a fault I cannot say, however they did post me a new replacement. This is much better in operation, and so far no issues. I use it only 'indoors' - that is to say for bench woodworking and not outside/garden . The tail is very useful, as are the 'scratchers' - I see other folks don't like this feature , but I find it useful when working with softwood. I'm pleased to update my review based on the operation of the tape, and to some extent, the Customer service when it did come through. Thank you
