Review: Bahco can do no wrong when it comes to making professional quality garden shears and secateurs. I write as a gardener who has used Bahco secateurs for some time. I've also used many, many pairs made by the firm's competitors. All of these rival cutters are now missing bits, (especially the spring), are blunt, and/or are loose so that they mangle and maim rather than shear cleanly. It's only in comparison to the lesser brands that the Bahcos stand out. The spring which returns the handles to the open position is of the old fashioned, coiled-wire variety, as opposed to the strange rolled metal strip that seems to be the standard for a lot of other firms and which inevitably falls out and gets lost. The clip that holds the handles shut is a very basic fold-around clasp that ties one arm to the other. It's not as user-friendly as the safety mechanism on other cutters, but it works, and again, it doesn't fall off. The build quality and reliabilty of the Bahcos is streets ahead of the nearest rivals. These boys keep trucking forever.

Review: I bought these to replace some anvil style ones I lost after having them for 18 years. Very disappointed. They may/could be good for soft plant pruning where scissor action is best, but for woody shrubs 10mm thick and above, which what I need them for most, I so wish I had invested in another pair of anvil ones and am kicking myself for not being able to find my old ones. As they had been my first pair I did not realize how much better they were and not even sure what make they were. If I hadn't bought some anvil draper loppers at the same time as these, which work brilliantly on the thicker stuff but a bit cumbersome when doing loads of smaller stuff, I would be really upset and be looking to buy another pair of anvil ones. I am puzzled as to why they don't work that well. I have a stronger than average grip, the blade is very sharp the nut is tight enough, they appear robust, yet you really have to jam the thicker stuff up near the pivot point to get even get a reasonable cut. Don't let me put you off if you are not going to use them in this way.
