Description: The Gardena Star Cut 410 plus is a specialist tool for the maintenance of high trees and shrubs. It features a telescopic aluminium handle which can be infinitely adjusted from 230cm to 410cm. This provides an approximate reach of up to 6.5 metres including the user's height. The 12x gear transmission guarantees powerful cutting of branches up to 32mm in diameter. The Star Cut 410 Plus is equipped with a hook which can be used to detach severed branches which have become entangled in foliage. The pulley transmission mechanism is contained inside the handle which prevents it getting caught in branches during the cutting process. The extra-lightweight, slender cutting head permits convenient and targeted cutting even close to the trunk and the cutting angle can be individually adjusted from the ground. The precision ground, non stick blades reduce friction when cutting and are especially easy to clean. Review: Cutter is excellent, good long reach and cuts very easily as it mechanism through a gearing system. Only down side was it was damaged as per photo on delivery. Otherwise can highly recommend.

Review: I bought this extendable lopper to replace the same brand fixed length loppers which had broken whilst attempting to cut a branch; yes, with the mechanical advantage afforded by the gear drive, it is possible to overload the blades, esp. if the branch is harder than expected. The design of the blade is the clue - any defects or small notches near the fulcrum (as in my case) will generate inordinate stresses in the blade and any stress raisers in this area will only exacerbate the situation - in my case the blade simply sheared off at the fulcrum. However, I still rate these loppers, for ease of use and power - just be prepared to limit the force applied by hand, and feel when to give up on a particularly obstinate branch.
