Review: This product is well made and sturdy. I had to dig a hole 48 inches deep. It coped easily with the top soil, after the first two and a half feet progress slowed. Cutting into thick heavy london clay was harder. Learning the correct technique was easy, drive the jaws Dow open, the spread the handles to grab the earth and the remove from hole! Sounds simple but requires some degree of strength and dexterity

Review: This is a very handy tool for removing soil and other debris from a hole. This is not for digging, it is for reaching into the hole and pulling out the stuff you've loosened with your grafter or digging bar. The quality is very good. The only drawback with this is that it is quite heavy to start with, and so it can quickly become tiring if you are doing a lot of deep holes. Forget using this in dry, crumbly or sandy soil, it will not work. The ground needs to be able to clump together, so damp earth, or clay will be fine. The blades do not close fully together, so if the soil is loose, it just falls out. It's not a design flaw, it's really just a limitation of these kind of tools. If you dampen the ground, it'll work better. Price is OK, but if you are only buying for one job, then you can probably get away with a cheaper set of spoons.
