Review: Used this to remove several layers of woodchip wallpaper (and several layers of paint). Worked a treat! I had to return the first one as it was damaged in post and noticed how fragile the fins are. Good value for money. Not an ‘industrial’ machine but does what it says.

Review: The media could not be loaded. Top tips: Pull out the pressure release valve when filling the tank and place the tank inside one of those flexible buckets to avoid spillages. Also, place the steam handle in the bucket whenever you put it down (turning on, dealing with walls or whilst cooling down) Review: I absolutely hate wallpaper, because I know eventually it won't look tidy around the edges and is awful to remove from the walls. I have been redecorating and had a reasonably large room to remove the wallpaper from. Initially I tried using hot soapy water and a sponge but it made a lot of mess, was very slow and I was worried that I would end up causing damage to the ceilings below with the amount of water going on the floor. It was miserable work and I very quickly gave up on that idea. Next I went in the loft and found an old wallpaper steamer. It hadn't been used in years and had worked well when used before and I remembered it being a lot easier and quicker with far less mess. I used it for a while and it was working a lot better, but the results were still a bit slow and then the electrics started tripping. This happened several times. Again, I gave up on the job because the electrics tripped about six times in total and the plug felt hot. Immediately I turned to Amazon to provide me with a reliable solution. Firstly, I came across the/>Stanley Maxi Orbital Wallpaper Scorer and found reviews were positive, confirming it worked well and would speed up the job. Then I came across this wallpaper steamer. I have heard of the company before but never tried any of their products. Again, reviews looked good so I ordered. What arrives was a unit that looked exactly the same as the product picture with a long hose, a reasonably long power cable, a resevoir, a steam handle and instructions. Before I had a chance to use it though, I discovered that the lid of the resevoir had snapped (despite there being no damage to the box) and that meant I couldn't even start the job again. Contacted Amazon, returned the product and reordered. The product that arrived this time came to me safely and I was able to get started. Filling up the steamer in the bath under the tap is the easiest and least messy way to fill the water contained. Once done, I plugged it in and turned the device on. TIP: Always remember to secure the lid after filling the resevoir otherwise the device will not work. I prepared the walls whilst waiting for it to heat up using theStanley Maxi Orbital Wallpaper Scorer like a chalk board rubber very gently in up and down motions to perforate the wallpaper. It took very little time to go over the walls with this tool and I managed to get around them all in the 12 minutes it took for the steamer to heat up and start creating steam through the handle. I originally started trying to remove the wallpaper using a wallpaper scraper but the blade was cutting into the plaster. I got out a standard filler/scraper and found that to be much more reliable at removing wallpaper without damaging the wall and it works a lot more quickly. It comes with a 4L tank, which (whilst being a standard size across many makes and models) if I am honest, could do with being much bigger. We have a moderately sized master bedroom and the tank needed refilling at least once for each wall. Refilling is frustrating because you need to remove the black cap and accurately pour water into the tank. As you pour, some of the water inevitably ends up going over the floor because it can't go into the tank quick enough past the black rubber part. In total, I estimate I will need to refill it around 10 times. The hose on the steamer is a reasonably long length allowing you to easily reach the ceiling (if your house isn't an old victorian building with tall ceilings). The cable is rather short and could do with being much longer. The handle is a good size, lightweight and comfortable to hold for extenses periods of time. I haven't had the fuses trip once since using this, which means I have made much more progress with none of the frustration I was facing before. Good Works reliabily Has a long steam hose Handle is lightweight and comfortable to use for a long time It's a well known brand at a reasonable price Could be better The way water is added could be improved by modifying the design. A spout with a flappy section to the side with a lid would be far more convenient and avoid the constant overflow problem The way the product is packaged means it's going to be luck whether you receive it in one piece, so you may not be able to start the job when you want to. This too could easily be fixed by containing the steamer inside of polysyrene or some other close fitting design that allows a gap between the product and the box The mains power lead is quite short Would be nice to see a way to keep everything tidy for storage by integrating into the design a section that can be used to wrap the steam pipe around the tank and perhaps a case for the whole kit to be put into to keep it safe until it's next needed Whilst overall I am happy with my purchase, because it is enabling me to remove the stubborn wallpaper that has been up for at least 40 years and it's fairly well priced, so many improvements could so easily be made. For a brand like Wagner, I don't think it's good enough. That is why I have given it three stars. Introduce these suggestions to the next iteration and I'll give it 5 stars.
