Review: I have a number of different Abus padlocks, including disc detainer and diskus types. On all occasions I gave these products a well-merited five star rating. This model is the largest (80) with the highest security rating (9) in the diskus series with a disc detainer type mechanism.. I was aware at the time of ordering the padlock that with this type of lock one has to be careful to insert the key all the way into the lock and not to use excessive force when turning the key. When I received the item I was initially surprised to note that unlocking/locking did not present any particular difficulty although the operation was not as smooth as with other similar Abus padlocks…. the problem started when I tried to remove the key after locking! Here I found that the key could only exit the keyhole with considerable difficulty after a long tug of war and wriggling the key to and fro. I then oiled the mechanism but this did not solve the problem. Obviously it would be foolish to use this padlock without solving this issue - you run the very real risk of snapping off the key in the lock perhaps when retrieving the key in the dark and/or in unfavorable weather conditions! I wanted to contact Abus through Amazon on this issue to see whether this defect was confined to the padlock I received rather than a general characteristic of this model and if this flaw could be addressed. Amazon did offer me a refund or a replacement item and initially I opted to have the item replaced. Subsequently, I decided to cancel the replacement order and to keep the defective item in view of the substantial postage costs of returning it (and still getting a similar faulty replacement - if this is a characteristic of this particular model). I will probably put this padlock in use as a paperweight.
